Only the Brave 2018 Featuring A&D Plumbing Services

A&D Plumbing Services got down in the dirt this March by competing in Only The Brave 2018, described as ‘East Anglia’s hugely popular mud obstacle race.’ Taking place at Elveden Estate near Thetford, this year’s race shaped up to be a fun-packed (and messy) opportunity to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

To make sure our runners’ ruined trainers were worth it, we asked our customers and colleagues to contribute to our JustGiving page to support our sponsorship of this cause. Through this page, we’re pleased to say that we raised a mammoth £1000 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance – double our target! Thanks to everyone who sponsored us.

Why are we taking part?

Quickly responding to emergencies across a wide area, the East Anglian Air Ambulance has been a literal lifesaver for the local community for the best part of 18 years. As a charity, they carry out their crucial work based entirely on generous donations and fundraising events, such as the Only The Brave mud run.

In 2015, A&D Plumbing previously supported the East Anglian Air Ambulance by donating and installing a new ambulance at the charity’s Ipswich premises. We’re eager to continue our support for this worthy cause by sponsoring and competing in this year’s race.

Who’s taking part?

A&D Plumbing Services sent along five willing volunteers to compete in this year’s mud run.

The following were our competitors and their hashtag personas:

 

• #TheBoss: Daniel set up A&D Plumbing Services in 2006. He has skillfully guided the company to year on year growth. Will he be able to manoeuvre himself as agilely through the mud on the course? Come along and watch the race to find out!

• #TheKnowledge: With over 30 years’ experience in the plumbing and heating industry, there isn’t a question about heating systems that Allen can’t answer. In comparison, the mud run is a step into a muddier, murkier unknown.

• #TheOrganiser:  Allocating jobs to all the engineers everyday, and troubleshooting if issues arise, makes Claire more than a match for anything the mud run course may throw at her! The driving force behind us signing up for this challenge, she is keen to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

• #TheRecruit: The newest member of our team, Peter is often the first line of communication between our company and a customer. He is calm under pressure and is applying the same mental strength to his mud run training.

• #ThePerfectionist: Matt, our specialist oil engineer always completes everything to the best of his abilities. He applies his perfectionist standards to every oil boiler installation and service. He is currently involved in some serious training for the mud run.

How did they do?

As we all know, it’s the taking part that counts. However, we’re all eager to know how our dream team performed. 1,144 people in total competed in the 6 mile run, and our very own Matt achieved 53rd best time! The rest of our crew all achieved impressive times within the 2 hour mark – so, it looks like all their training paid off!
