Smart Technology on the Rise

Technology is now an important part of everyday life for millions of people, with its rapid development showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. These innovations have also made an impact in the plumbing industry, with 93% of participants in a recent poll of plumbers stating that they have implemented smart technology in their daily work routines.

Plumbers are using technology in a number of different ways, from using their smartphones to download technical instructions to looking up specifications for components or ordering new parts themselves.

The speed of this technology allows plumbers to access the information they need quickly, so it doesn’t obstruct their work and affect the quality of the project. Compare this to trying to find some instructions for a component in a handbook for example, and the time saved is of a huge benefit to both plumber and customer alike.

As well as helping the plumbers themselves with their work, technological innovations have found their way into homes across the country, thanks to various ‘smart’ thermostats. These thermostats allow users to set and manage temperatures in their home via their smartphones, tablets or PCs. There are sensors placed throughout the home which communicate with the main control panel, allowing the user to set different temperatures for different rooms.

The introduction of smart technology into the plumbing industry has had an extremely positive effect, according to Julie Spinks of WaterSafe. She explains: “the results show the advent of smart technology is having a profoundly positive effect on the plumbing sector… enabling plumbers to do everything from keeping in contact with customers to specifying products on the go, it’s helping plumbers work more efficiently.”
